Welcome to GTOGG’s January 2024 edition of Promising Indie Game Releases, where we highlight indie and non-mainstream titles that we believe deserve your attention – in other words, “look at all this potentially cool stuff you might’ve missed otherwise”. That would’ve been too long for a title, though.
In any case, let’s get right down to it.
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell
Releasing as the latest installment in the Momodora franchise, Moonlit Farewell will also serve as a concluding episode that aims to answer some lingering questions and, as the developer put it, “close the book” on a few mysteries from past games. Players will control Momo, the high priestess of Koho Village as she faces the threat a horrific demon invasion, forcing her to journey forth and discover who rang the mysterious bell that summoned said demons. Which, as you might imagine, will involve plenty of action, challenging boss battles and a rich, atmospheric world – brought to life with fantastic pixel art – just waiting to be explored.

Anomaly Agent
Described as a time-bending cyberpunk adventure, Anomaly Agent will task you with saving the world from anomalies before they plunge it into absolute chaos. Featuring a catchy synthwave soundtrack and flashy moves to master, the game will have players fight their way through a horde of anomalies as they explore a twisty-turny story with quirky, memorable characters and plenty of unique ways to pulverize their opposition.

New Cycle
New Cycle is a city builder/survival game that has you manage your own colony in a world seemingly doomed to ruination. After a solar flare destroys the Old World and civilization as we know it, it’s up to you to pick yourself up from the ashes and try to restore some semblance of order to your new reality – manage resources, build up your community and face the many challenges – natural or otherwise – that threaten to collapse what you’re trying to build up.
The Lost Legends of Redwall: Feasts & Friends

Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk
The first entry in a series, Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk will introduce you to the young adventurer Mina as she travels from the world of Dawnside to the dangerous Duskside, wielding her fire-themed elemental powers on a quest to save her brother from the demon that’s kidnapped him. Mixing fast-paced action and turn-based battles, the project pays homage to the 16-bit era with its lovably pixely art style, but aims to keeps things fresh for modern audiences as well. It’s also scheduled to get free post-launch updates that will add new areas, side quests and much, much more to the game.

And that’s our list for now! Did you discover a new indie game to look forward to? Well, we hope you did. In any case, don’t forget to check back in about a month for our next episode, where we’ll be taking a look at the indie games of February 2024!
